Philosophy

At Busby West Public School Preschool, we believe that early childhood education creates the foundations for future learning. We provide an environment where the children in our care feel nurtured and supported whilst engaging in high-quality care and education based on the Early Years Learning Framework. Our pedagogy and programs reflect children’s current interests, strengths, ideas and experiences which contribute to a sense of Belonging, Being & Becoming.

In relation to our children

Our preschool is a safe space of belonging where learning through play is central.

At Busby West Public Preschool we empower our children to;

  • make their own choices and decisions
  • be free to express their own voices regarding issues that are important to them
  • be problem solvers and confident risk takers
  • become independent and self motivated in a supportive and safe environment

To capture a true perspective of the 'whole child', observations are recorded of each child in various 'learning contexts'.

In relation to our families

We believe that families are the foundation for their child’s early learning.

We seek family participation to assist in planning a curriculum that is relevant and connected to our children and families.

We connect with families to embrace and learn about different perspectives, beliefs, values and celebrate differences.

We believe in building and maintaining meaningful and trusting relationships with all our families.

In relation to our educators

Guided by our curriculum frameworks, we recognise our professional and ethical responsibilities.

We believe that we are influential advocates for the learning and development of our children through intentional and respectful relationships building a purposeful curriculum planning.

Learning from our respective differences, together as a team, we share a willingness to role model the values of co-operation, collaboration, fairness and equity for our children.

In relation to our community

We believe in developing connections with our local community.

We believe building community connections is something we do together to share perspectives and foster positive rewarding relationships.

Through community we better understand our purpose and work toward common goals for the best interests of all.

We acknowledge that our preschool stand on Darrug land, which is sacred to them.

In relation to our learning program

We believe in making learning visible, through documentation and displays which showcase children’s choices about curriculum directions based on their evolving interests.

Our planning and programming centres around an Emergent curriculum, respecting the individual learning styles of children.

Our daily routines integrate real life learning, sharing equal time engaged in play in both indoor and outdoor environments.

In relation to our learning environment

We are committed to designing aesthetically pleasing learning spaces for our children to learn.

We believe the learning environment should be playful, engaging and challenging with resources and areas that inspire our children’s imagination and curiosity for exploratory learning.

We believe children should be supported to connect with the real world through discovery and experimentation with nature based play, sustainability and environmental education.
